If you would travel south, just little bit over hour by train from London you will find Eastbourne. Which is located few miles east from more famous brother Brighton.
I personally, prefer Eastbourne. I love it during off season. When it is not so crowded by beachgoers and other vacationers. When weather is little bit rainy, stormy and can change to sunny one in matter of minutes.
Boardwalk is nice but take a tax to Beach Head Restaurant and after arriving to parking, cross a road and walk to cliffs.
This is truly magnificent place to be. You can walk miles on top of chalk cliffs, enjoying see views.

But keep walking and you will see even more of them
After few hundred meters you will arrive at point where you can see Sven Sisters in the full beauty.
Get down to pebble beach.

When you done, do go directly to East Dean, take a footpath over downs.
You will have to cross fields and you will arrive into true English Countryside.
Have a lunch in East Dean. “Hicker’s Rest” or “Tiger Inn” will do the job nicely.
Grab bus number 12 (12A,12X will work fine as well) and get back to golden beaches of Eastbourne.
